For flower lovers, phalaenopsis is undoubtedly a much-pursued flower. In the process of daily maintenance, are phalaenopsis afraid of smoke? Can they be kept in a place with heavy cooking fumes?
As an elegant indoor ornamental plant, phalaenopsis has relatively high requirements for the environment. It prefers a well-ventilated environment with diffused light, which is conducive to its healthy growth and flowering. However, a smoky environment is a potential threat to phalaenopsis.
The smoke produced by smoking contains a large number of tiny particles and harmful substances. These substances attach to the leaves of phalaenopsis and will hinder its normal photosynthesis and respiration. If phalaenopsis is exposed to a smoky environment for a long time, its leaves may turn yellow and wither, and in severe cases, the plant may even die. Therefore, judging from the growth habits of phalaenopsis, it is afraid of smoke.
Cooking fumes are common pollutants in the kitchen. They contain tiny particles of oil, seasonings and other ingredients. These particles are not only pungent, but also harmful to the growth of phalaenopsis.
If phalaenopsis is placed in a place with heavy cooking fumes, the tiny particles in the fumes will deposit on the leaf surface and form a layer of dirt that is difficult to remove. This layer of dirt not only affects the beauty of phalaenopsis, but more importantly, it will hinder the leaves from carrying out photosynthesis, resulting in poor plant growth. In addition, harmful substances in the cooking fumes may also enter the plant through the stomata of the leaves, causing further damage to it. Therefore, phalaenopsis cannot be placed in a place with heavy cooking fumes.
Since phalaenopsis are afraid of smoke and cannot be placed in a place with heavy cooking fumes, we should provide them with a good growing environment. Here are some suggestions:
Choose a suitable location: Place phalaenopsis in a well-ventilated place with diffused light, such as the east or south balcony of your home. Avoid placing it in a confined, airless place or where the air pollution is severe.
Maintain appropriate temperature and humidity: The suitable temperature for the growth of phalaenopsis is between 16 and 30 degrees Celsius, and the air humidity is 60% - 80%. In home cultivation, we can increase the air humidity by spraying water, placing water basins and other methods.
Clean the leaves regularly: Wipe the leaves of phalaenopsis with a damp cloth regularly to remove the dirt and tiny particles on the surface and keep the leaves clean and shiny.
Fertilize and water properly: According to the growth needs of phalaenopsis, fertilize and water properly to avoid damaging the plant by over-fertilizing or under-watering.
In conclusion, phalaenopsis are afraid of smoke and cannot be placed in a place with heavy cooking fumes. In order to make them grow and bloom healthily, we need to provide them with a good growing environment.
