Today, I'd like to share with you an amazing Phalaenopsis variety — Amethyst. I must strongly recommend it to you!
Phalaenopsis Amethyst belongs to the small-flowered summer-blooming variety. Its single flowering period can last for 2 to 3 months. The light pink petals are delicate and soft, with a purple edging inlaid along the petal edges. The labellum has a velvety texture, giving it a high-end feel.
In addition to its good looks, Phalaenopsis Amethyst also has a unique fragrance. As long as you place it on the windowsill and let the sunlight shine on it, it will emit a faint and refreshing fragrance that is very pleasant.
Compared with other varieties in the same color series, such as the Purple Diamond and Purple Daffodil, the Purple Diamond has a rich color, thick petals, and a long flowering period. In contrast, the Purple Daffodil and Amethyst are more ethereal.
Here comes the key part! Phalaenopsis Amethyst is extremely easy to care for, and even beginners can handle it with ease:
1. Watering: Amethyst has fleshy aerial roots. It likes a moist environment but is afraid of waterlogging. Before each watering, just insert your finger about 2 to 3 cm into the planting medium to check the dryness and wetness. If it feels dry, you can water it! Slowly pour water along the edge of the pot, and make sure not to let the water splash onto the flowers and leaves. Generally, water it once a week. When the air is dry, water it a bit more appropriately. When the indoor environment is too dry, you can also spray mist around the plant to increase the air humidity.
2. Light: It prefers soft diffused light and cannot stand direct strong light. Places like beside the coffee table in the living room or by the windowsill, which are bright but without direct sunlight, are its "ideal homes". If it is exposed to strong light for a long time, the leaves will be sunburned, and unsightly yellow patches will appear.
3. Temperature: An environment with a temperature ranging from 15 to 28°C is most suitable for its growth. When the temperature exceeds 32°C in summer, use a fan to cool it down. When the temperature is lower than 10°C in winter, quickly move it to a warm place. Otherwise, unsuitable temperatures will affect its growth and may even cause the flowers to wither.
There are also some things to note during maintenance:
Apply thin fertilizers frequently. You can apply a thin special orchid fertilizer once a month.
Rotate the flower pot regularly to ensure that the plant receives light evenly and avoid uneven growth.
Cut off the withered flowers in a timely manner after they fade to reduce nutrient consumption.
It's better to act than just be tempted. Hurry up and get a pot of Phalaenopsis Amethyst!
