Today, I recommend an extremely unique flower. It is double-colored jasmine, also known as bicolor jasmine. Its flowers can appear in two colors. When they first bloom, they are light purple and gradually turn purple. When the flowers are about to wither, they will turn white. And precisely because it has two colors coexisting in harmony, it is also symbolized as "mandarin ducks." It symbolizes that although couples may not know each other at first, after coming together, they still coexist with mutual loyalty and harmony. So, can double-colored jasmine be pruned in summer during daily maintenance?
Can double-colored jasmine be pruned in summer during daily maintenance? The answer is yes. The purpose of pruning it is to promote the healthy growth of the plant, remove pests and diseases, and shape the ideal plant form. So, how should we operate during the pruning process?
First of all, the best time for summer pruning is usually from late spring to early summer. When new buds begin to sprout, it's time to start pruning. But be careful not to choose to prune at the hot noon. Then, prepare scissors or gardening shears. First, cut off all dead, diseased or damaged leaves and branches. These parts not only affect the aesthetics but may also become a breeding ground for pests and diseases. Other parts can trim the overly elongated branches by one-third of their length. Finally, after pruning is completed, promptly clean up all the cut branches and leaves to avoid them rotting on the soil surface and attracting pests or pathogens.
Generally speaking, most double-colored jasmines in the flower market are potted. When you buy one and come back, how should you cultivate it daily? First, in terms of light, it likes sufficient sunlight and needs at least 4-6 hours of direct sunlight every day. But it should be avoided to be directly exposed to the sun at noon in hot summer to prevent the leaves from being sunburned.
Then, the principle of daily watering is relatively simple. As long as you see that the surface of the potting soil is dry, you can thoroughly water it. But be careful not to have water accumulated at the bottom of the pot, otherwise, it is easy to cause root rot.
Finally, in terms of soil and fertilization, it is recommended to choose a mixture of deciduous soil, garden soil, and sand. These are all relatively permeable media. As for the fertilization time, a thin liquid fertilizer can be applied once every two weeks during the growing season to promote the healthy growth of the plant.
