How cold-resistant is saffron?

Today, I'd like to introduce a very famous flower. What it embodies is expensiveness. Meanwhile, it is also one of the most precious spices in the world. In traditional Chinese medicine, it is called saffron.
Saffron is native to the regions of the Mediterranean and southern Europe. Later, it was successfully cultivated on a large scale in Shanghai and Zhejiang. Generally speaking, it is mainly cultivated in pots in the flower market. In appearance, its flowers are relatively small with quite a number of petals. The flower colors are mainly light purple and white. The dark-colored style in the middle is one of the main components of the spice. Its blooming time is just like that of human beings, opening during the day and closing at night, having the unique characteristic of a biological clock.
So how should it be cared for after being bought? Saffron likes sunlight, so it can be placed in a well-ventilated and sunny place. As for the soil, it is advisable to prepare a substrate with a pH value of 6 - 7 (neutral) and good drainage.
When it comes to watering, saffron doesn't need to be watered too much. Because its growth period is from the late winter to the early summer when the natural precipitation is relatively abundant. It's okay to water it when the soil is almost dry. You can water it according to the actual situation of the soil. You can touch the soil with your hand. When the soil is slightly dry, water it thoroughly. But be careful not to leave waterlogging at the bottom of the pot to avoid root soaking and root rot.
In terms of temperature and humidity, saffron is relatively cold-resistant and is a perennial plant. The suitable growth temperature is between 2℃ and 19℃. So it's difficult for it to bloom in the relatively hot summer or the mild winter. If you want it to bloom, the bulbs must experience a cold winter, which can stimulate its growth. Meanwhile, when cultivating it in pots, be careful not to change its maintenance environment frequently. Otherwise, the fluctuating temperature will also have an adverse impact on its growth. At the same time, when the surrounding environment has relatively high humidity, it's also easy for it to enter the dormant period.
No plant can grow without fertilization. Although saffron doesn't need a lot of fertilizers, generally speaking, it is recommended to apply a little fertilizer during the growth period so as to be beneficial to its growth.
When it comes to pruning, if there are yellow leaves, they can be pruned. The pruned leaves can be left in the garden or on the lawn so that the nutrients in the yellow leaves can flow back to the bulbs again.
