Today, I'd like to introduce to you this European-style Phalaenopsis from Floriade Holland - Santiago.
In terms of the flower shape, the Phalaenopsis Santiago belongs to the small to medium flower type. It is delicate and compact, but surprisingly, it has a large number of flowers. There are multiple branches, numerous flowers, and many forks. The pink petals are adorned with red stripes, and with that bright purplish-red flower center, it is flamboyant and unique.
Let's take a look at its leaves. They are slender and dark reddish-brown in color, setting off the flowers and making it even more distinctive. Moreover, it has a large number of leaves, and its root system is particularly well-developed, making the plant look robust and full of vitality. During normal maintenance, there is no need to worry about it dropping flower buds frequently. It is worry-free and labor-saving.
The flowering period of the Phalaenopsis Santiago is really long. Generally, it can last for 2 to 3 months. If it is well-maintained, it can even last longer!
Spring Maintenance Tips
Light: The Phalaenopsis Santiago likes bright diffused light. Since the sunlight is mild in spring, you can place it on a south-facing windowsill and let it enjoy 4 to 5 hours of light every day. However, remember to avoid direct sunlight to prevent the leaves from being damaged.
Watering: Follow the principle of "moderate dryness and wetness". Spring is its prime growing season, so you can appropriately increase the frequency of watering, about 1 to 2 times a week. When watering, slowly pour water thoroughly along the edge of the flower pot, and avoid water accumulating in the center of the leaves to prevent the heart from rotting.
Fertilization: Spring is the peak growing season. Apply a diluted special liquid fertilizer for orchids once every 1 to 2 weeks. Apply thin fertilizers frequently to help it take root quickly and accumulate energy for blooming.
Temperature: It is most suitable to keep the temperature between 18℃ and 28℃. There is a large temperature difference in spring, so pay attention to keeping it warm at night to prevent it from being frostbitten.
Maintenance Tips
1. Ventilation is of vital importance! Good ventilation can prevent pests and diseases and make the plant healthier. You can often open the windows for ventilation, or place a small fan beside it and let it blow gently.
2. Don't repot it too frequently. Unless the root system has filled the pot, try not to repot it in spring to avoid damaging the root system and affecting its growth and blooming.
3. Don't change its position frequently. The Phalaenopsis needs time to adapt to a new environment, and frequent movement will affect the blooming effect.
