I believe that flower lovers who like bright-colored flowers must have raised "phalaenopsis" before, because it has a variety of colors and the flowers flutter like butterflies, which is very vivid. However, it is not as simple as it seems to raise phalaenopsis well, especially in terms of the maintenance temperature, which is even more difficult to grasp. Therefore, many flower lovers adopt a method called "ice cubes and temperature difference".
The so-called "ice cubes and temperature difference" method is mostly because in the hot summer, the sun shines directly and fiercely, and flower lovers come up with this method to cool down the plants quickly. This method mostly chooses to place ice cubes around the flowerpot, not directly into the soil. Although it seems feasible in theory, this practice may be counterproductive, because the contrast between the temperature of the ice cubes and the hot temperature outside is likely to cause negative damage to the sensitive roots. In mild cases, it will shorten the flowering period, and in severe cases, it will directly stop the growth of the phalaenopsis and cause it to die.
Why is the "ice cubes and temperature difference" method not recommended? Because the phalaenopsis is native to tropical regions, it is extremely about temperature and humidity. Too high or too low a temperature difference will exceed its tolerance range. As long as the roots sense an unusual temperature, it will enter a self-sealing state, which will lead to a slowdown or even stagnation of the metabolism of its leaves. If the phalaenopsis is kept in a relatively large temperature difference for a long time, it will weaken the vitality of the phalaenopsis and make it extremely fragile.
So, in the hot summer, if the "ice cubes and temperature difference" method cannot be used, how can the plants be effectively cooled down? First, avoid placing ice cubes directly around the flowerpot. You can adopt the method of spraying water mist above the flowerpot or move the phalaenopsis to a relatively well-ventilated and shady place. In addition, you can closely follow the weather forecast of the observatory and take measures in advance to deal with large temperature differences. Friends with conditions can build a small greenhouse for the phalaenopsis to let it grow healthily in a relatively constant temperature.
All in all, the method of using ice cubes to cool down is not advisable, as it poses a great threat to the life of the plant. In daily maintenance, when encountering a relatively large temperature difference, pay attention to ventilation and place it in a place where the air circulates well.
