Today, I'd like to share with you a niche, retro, and color-changing variety - the Phalaenopsis "White Veil", also known as "White Moonlight", and its scientific name is Phalaenopsis amabilis.
The Phalaenopsis "White Veil" belongs to the medium-flower type, with the flower diameter being about 7 cm. When it first blooms, there is a faint hint of light pink amidst the grayish-yellow color. As time passes, the grayish-yellow gradually fades away, and the soft colors of yellow, white, and pink blend naturally, giving a fresh and gentle feeling. The petals are pointed, light, and lively.
Its color, a light milk tea color paired with a touch of dried rose color, looks great in photos no matter how you take them when placed at home. It exudes a strong sense of luxury and can easily enhance the style of your home.
During daily maintenance, once you find that you have watered it too much, you should immediately take the plant out of the flower pot, gently shake off the substrate attached to the roots, and place the plant in a well-ventilated and shaded area to allow the excess water to evaporate as quickly as possible. If some of the roots have already rotted, you need to use a disinfected pair of scissors to cut off the rotten parts completely. Then, soak the roots in a diluted carbendazim solution for 15-20 minutes for disinfection. After taking them out and drying them, replace the substrate with new and dry one and repot the plant. Reduce the amount of watering thereafter, and resume normal maintenance once the plant regains its vitality.
Maintenance Methods
1. Light: The Phalaenopsis "White Veil" likes bright scattered light. It can be placed indoors near a window where the sunlight does not shine directly, such as beside the tea table in the living room, to avoid the leaves and flowers being burned by strong light.
2. Temperature: The suitable growth temperature for it is between 18℃ and 25℃. When the temperature is too high in summer, pay attention to ventilation and cooling; in winter, take good warming measures and try to keep the room temperature not lower than 15℃.
3. Watering: Follow the principle of "watering when the soil is dry and then thoroughly". Insert your finger 2-3 cm into the substrate, and water it when you feel it is dry. Generally, water it 1-2 times a week, and when watering, make sure to soak the substrate thoroughly until water flows out from the bottom of the pot.
4. Fertilization: During the growing season, apply a slow-release fertilizer once every 1-2 months, or apply a thin liquid fertilizer, such as a diluted solution of potassium dihydrogen phosphate, once every 2-3 weeks.
Precautions
1. Soil Selection: Use a substrate with good air permeability and drainage, such as a mixed substrate of sphagnum moss, bark, and coconut coir. Do not use ordinary garden soil, otherwise, the roots are likely to rot.
2. Prevention of Pests and Diseases: Regularly check the plant, keep the environment well-ventilated, and prevent the breeding of pests such as scale insects and red spider mites. If pests and diseases are found, use special pesticides for control in a timely manner.
3. Avoid Frequent Moving: The Phalaenopsis "White Veil" needs a certain amount of time to adapt to the environment. Do not move its position frequently, otherwise, it will affect its growth and blooming.
