What makes people feel most distressed when raising flowers is seeing the fresh flowers drooping due to dehydration. Don't be in a hurry to throw them away. Here are several extremely practical first-aid methods that even beginners can easily operate.
I. Water-cutting method:
1. Find a clean basin and fill it with clean water. Soak the flower roots in it. Cut the roots at a 45-degree angle (cut 2-3 centimeters). Keep 1-2 healthy leaves at the top and remove the rest of the leaves to avoid competing for water.
2. After cutting, change to deep water for cultivation. The water level should be about half of the flower stem. Let it stand for 4-6 hours.
II. Reviving flowers with deep water
1. Find a tall bucket and fill it with water to a position 5-10 centimeters away from the flower head. Directly soak the stem part 10 centimeters below the flower head in the water.
2. For special flower materials such as hydrangeas, the whole flower head can be directly immersed in cold water. Pay attention not to keep the petals wet for too long.
III. Cross-cutting the roots
1. Use a sharp pair of scissors to make a cross-shaped cut at the root, about 2-3 centimeters deep. If it is a woody stem, such as a rose or wintersweet, directly cut it into a "rice" shape, and then tear off a circle of the outer skin to expose the white water-absorbing layer inside.
2. Insert it directly into deep water for cultivation. The water level should be more than 5 centimeters above the cut.
IV. Scalding the roots with boiling water
1. Prepare boiling water. When the water is not so hot, immerse the 3-centimeter part of the root in it and scald it for 1 minute (small bubbles will appear).
2. Immediately cut off the scalded and charred part of the root. After rinsing it with normal temperature water, revive the flower with deep water.
V. Burning method
1. Dip the root in some high-proof liquor and use a lighter to burn it until it turns black and charred. This can lock the sap and prevent it from flowing out.
2. After burning, cut off the carbonized part and place it in deep water for cultivation. The freshness period can be extended by one more week!
VI. Tapping method
1. Place the root on a towel and gently tap it with a hammer for 30 seconds to break up the fibers.
2. Put it in water and squeeze the stem to help it absorb water.
First-aid tips:
1. Remove the leaves: Remove all the leaves in the water. If left, they will rot the roots and contaminate the water quality.
2. Use clean water: Don't add a flower preservative during first aid. Just use cooled boiled water or purified water. Cleanliness is the most important thing.
3. Observe the condition: If the flower head is still limp and the stem is hollow when squeezed after 8 hours of rescue, it is very likely that the flower cannot be saved. Don't waste your efforts and replace it with a new flower in time.
In fact, the best way is prevention. When you receive the flowers, cut the roots and revive the flowers first. Use ice water in summer and warm water in winter. Don't wait until the flowers are dehydrated before rescuing them.
