Phalaenopsis has an elegant posture, and the transplantation after root induction is a key point in its maintenance, which directly affects its subsequent growth. Here are the specific steps and maintenance points for you:
I. Pot Selection
For weak seedlings, it is recommended to use root control pots. If there is no such pot, you can also make one yourself. Just make holes evenly on the pot wall and the bottom of an ordinary plastic pot. When transplanting, never cut off the lignified part. It has many fiber holes. Once cut off, miscellaneous bacteria are likely to invade the neck from the wound, causing neck rot.
II. Planting
Put the plant into the pot. The neck of the seedling should be completely exposed outside the planting medium, otherwise it is very likely to suffer from neck rot. At the same time, let the roots be exposed about 1 centimeter, which is conducive to the roots adapting to the new environment.
III. Lighting
1. Before the plant acclimates to the pot: Maintain a weak light of 4000 - 5000 lumens. When new leaves and new roots grow out and the seedling is in good condition, it means that the plant has acclimated to the pot, which takes about 15 days, varying depending on the seedling condition and variety. During this period, if there is a flower spike, it must be broken off to concentrate nutrients on the seedling.
2. After the plant acclimates to the pot: For those with good leaf conditions, the light can be gradually increased to below 10,000 lumens; for those with wrinkled leaves, continue to maintain a light of 4000 - 5000 lumens. Wait until at least 2 new leaves grow out, and then maintain it according to the normal light condition.
IV. Environment
1. Ventilation: It is best to place it in a ventilated place. If the indoor ventilation is not good, use a small fan on the lowest gear to blow. Place it on the ground to let the air circulate. Do not blow directly on the leaves to prevent the leaves from losing water and being damaged due to excessive wind force.
2. Temperature and Humidity: The suitable growth temperature of Phalaenopsis is between 18 - 28°C. Before the plant acclimates to the pot, keep the air humidity at 50% - 60%; after the plant acclimates to the pot, for the situation where it is planted with bark and the ventilation condition is good, the humidity can be increased to 70% - 80%; if it is planted with sphagnum moss, adhere to the principle of watering when the surface is dry and then watering thoroughly, and adjust the humidity flexibly according to the actual environment.
V. Watering
1. Before the plant acclimates to the pot: Maintain it in a slightly dry state to promote the germination of new roots. If using bark as the planting medium, insert a disposable chopstick into the middle of the planting medium. When it is dry, spray water on the surface of the planting medium with a spray bottle. Since the environment of each family, the region where it is located, and the selected planting medium are all different, the frequency of watering cannot be uniformly determined, and flower enthusiasts need to judge flexibly according to the actual situation.
2. After the plant acclimates to the pot: If it is planted with bark and the ventilation is good, the number of watering times can be appropriately increased, but do not let water accumulate; if it is planted with sphagnum moss, water it thoroughly when the surface is dry.
