Today, I will share a kind of annual herbaceous plant "Cosmos sulphureus" whose origin is Mexico. It can also be regarded as a kind of Cosmos bipinnatus that is well known to everyone. In appearance, it is mainly golden and orange flowers. In recent years, there are also varieties improved into yellow or maroon. The petals are available in single and double petals. If you choose a large flowerpot, the flowers it blooms later will be larger and darker in color, while the flowers in a small flowerpot will be smaller and lighter in color.
In addition to its colorful and diverse characteristics, Cosmos sulphureus also has a long flowering period of 2 to 3 months. In the flower market, it is mostly potted. You can place it on the balcony, terrace or sunny living room, study and other places. In home conservation, first of all, sufficient light is needed. It needs no less than 6 hours of full-day sunlight every day. If you can only put it in a dark place, it may affect the number and color depth of its flowers.
The suitable temperature for it is between 15℃ and 30℃. As long as it does not exceed the range, there will basically be flowers. It is not resistant to winter. Especially in cold or frosty places, it must be placed in a warm space, otherwise the potted plant will die. Then in terms of soil requirements, Cosmos sulphureus likes alkaline soil areas. Therefore, the suitable soil pH is 6.0 - 8.5. You can also choose some flowerpots with porous bottoms to ensure good air permeability and drainage.
Finally, in terms of watering and fertilization, it is drought-tolerant but not waterlogged. The soil must be prevented from being soaked in water. Especially in the rainy season, prevention must be made in advance. Generally speaking, water can be applied when the soil surface is dry. As for fertilization, a balanced liquid fertilizer should be applied every 2-3 weeks during the growing season (from spring to summer), which helps the plant grow lushly and bloom.
It should be noted that Cosmos sulphureus likes light, so remember to adjust the position of the plant frequently so that it can make full use of the sunlight. In terms of pests, although it is not easy to have pests, in the early summer, aphids are easy to grow near its new shoots. If found, appropriate fungicides need to be sprayed.
Is Cosmos sulphureus easy to raise?
