As we all know, the mosquito-repellent plant is the natural enemy of mosquitoes. It belongs to Pelargonium graveolens. Because it has a special smell that mosquitoes are most afraid of, it is an excellent choice to keep several pots of it at home in summer.
In recent years, the reason why many young people choose to raise mosquito-repellent plants is mainly that they are easy to buy in the market. Moreover, the smell it emits has absolutely no side effects even if babies smell it. In appearance, its leaves are alternate, the edges of the leaves are wavy and serrated, and the veins are reddish-brown, making it look quite unique.
However, in terms of maintenance, although the mosquito-repellent plant is easy to take care of, quite a number of flower lovers have complained that they can't raise it well. So which has gone wrong? First of all, it is necessary to clarify the properties of the soil. The mosquito-repellent plant likes neutral, slightly acidic, loose and breathable soil. Generally speaking, if you buy it directly in the flower market, most of them are only equipped with ordinary substrate soil, which is prone to hardening in the later stage of maintenance, so that its roots can't breathe and lead to poor growth.
Secondly, improper daily light exposure can also easily cause poor growth. The mosquito-repellent plant is naturally fond of light. If the environment at home is relatively dark, it can't absorb sunlight for photosynthesis, and the leaves will turn yellow later. If the light at home is good, but the fierce sunlight is not blocked in time in summer, the leaves will be burned for a long time, which will also affect its later growth. Therefore, in daily maintenance, it is necessary to choose a place with scattered light to place it.
Finally, the growth temperature of the mosquito-repellent plant is between 10 and 25 degrees Celsius. As long as it is in a suitable environment, it will grow very well. In addition, it should be noted that when the temperature is high in summer, it is appropriate to spray water around the plant to cool it down and increase the humidity. When winter comes, it should be transferred to a warm indoor place in time. If the maintenance temperature is higher than 35 degrees Celsius or lower than 3 degrees Celsius, it will enter a semi-dormant state. At this time, there is no need for too much care. Just wait until spring comes and the flowers bloom, and it will recover its state.
