Today, I'd like to introduce to you the beauty in the world of Phalaenopsis orchids - Black Jack.

Phalaenopsis Black Jack belongs to the medium-flowered type, with a flower diameter of up to 7 centimeters. Its white petals are dotted with rose-red spots, and when paired with the unique red lip, it stands out in terms of appearance and has won the love of many flower enthusiasts.

The flowering period of Phalaenopsis Black Jack is also quite long. Under normal circumstances, the flowering period can last up to 2 to 3 months. If it is well maintained, it can even bloom for as long as 4 months. However, it also has some minor shortcomings. During the growth process, it is not easy to arrange the inflorescences neatly, and the upper petals are prone to curling backward.

Maintenance Tips

Lighting: Phalaenopsis Black Jack prefers scattered light and should avoid direct sunlight, especially the intense sunlight in summer, otherwise, the leaves are likely to be sunburned. The plant can be placed near the east-facing or south-facing windowsill indoors, and blinds or sheer curtains can be used to adjust the light intensity.

Temperature: The most suitable growth temperature is between 18°C and 28°C. When the temperature exceeds 32°C in summer, cooling measures need to be taken, such as turning on the air conditioner or spraying water around the plant. When the temperature is lower than 10°C in winter, it needs to be moved to a warm place to ensure that the indoor temperature is not lower than 10°C. Heating or air conditioning equipment can be used for warming.

Watering: Adhere to the principle of "watering when the soil is dry and wetting it thoroughly". It is best to choose slightly acidic soft water, such as rainwater or tap water that has been left standing for a while. When watering, avoid splashing water on the flowers and leaves to prevent rotting.

Fertilization: Apply a thin, specialized orchid fertilizer once every 1-2 months during the growing season. The concentration of the fertilizer should not be too high. Follow the principle of "applying thin fertilizers frequently" to avoid fertilizer damage. During the flower bud differentiation period, an appropriate amount of phosphorus and potassium fertilizers can be added to promote the formation and development of flower buds.

Repotting: Phalaenopsis Black Jack grows relatively fast. It is recommended to repot it once a year in spring to provide sufficient growth space. When repotting, be careful not to damage the roots. After repotting, place it in a cool and ventilated place for one week to let the plant recover.

Humidity: Phalaenopsis Black Jack likes a relatively high air humidity. You can spray mist around the plant regularly to increase the air humidity.

Ventilation: Maintain a good ventilation environment to prevent the breeding of pests and diseases due to poor air circulation.

Precautions

1. Repotting: Repotting too frequently is likely to damage the roots and affect the growth of the plant.
2. Prevention and Control of Pests and Diseases: Maintain a good ventilation environment, regularly check the health status of the plant, and promptly prevent and control pests and diseases once they are found.
3. Pruning: After flowering, if the branches turn yellow and shriveled, the flower stalk can be pruned off from the base to save nutrients and promote the recovery of the plant.
