The annual summer vacation has arrived again. Many parents want to take their children to experience the fun of growing plants at home. So, which plants can be easily raised by simply taking a cutting?
Chlorophytum comosum
Chlorophytum comosum is a plant that is easy to maintain and has strong reproductive ability. At the same time, it also has the ability to purify the air, and it is also the first choice of green plants for many families. How to propagate it by taking cuttings? First, with a clean and swift movement, break the branch about 1-2 centimeters above the node (also called the bud eye). Then insert the cut branch into moist and loose soil. The insertion depth is approximately one-third to one-half of the branch length. Finally, provide an environment with scattered light. Generally, 15-25 degrees Celsius is the best. Keep the soil slightly moist to avoid water accumulation to ensure the new part can thrive.
Peperomia tetraphylla
Peperomia tetraphylla is a common indoor foliage plant, also known as Jade Plant, Peperomia obtusifolia, and Peperomia. It belongs to the Piperaceae family and is a perennial green plant. Its leaves are like a small pocket, which is very beautiful. How to propagate it by taking cuttings? First, use a sterilized sharp scissors to cut the branch about 1 centimeter below the node. Each branch can be cut with 2-3 nodes. Then insert the cut branch into a moist medium with good drainage such as perlite, vermiculite or sandy soil. The insertion depth is approximately one-third of the branch length. Then cover it with a plastic bag and place it in a bright but not direct sunlight position. Finally, check whether the branch has taken root after about 2-3 weeks. Once rooted, the plastic bag can be removed, gradually adapt to normal light, and apply appropriate fertilizer to promote vigorous growth.
Purple Chlorophytum
Purple Chlorophytum is a perennial foliage herb. Its special feature is that its leaves are greener when growing in a relatively shady environment, but its leaves will turn purple-green when exposed to sufficient sunlight. Therefore, some flower sellers also call it Purple Flower Chlorophytum. How to propagate it by taking cuttings? First, use clean scissors to cut the branch about 1 centimeter above the node to ensure that each branch contains at least one node. Then insert the cut branch into moist and loose soil or a hydroponic container. During this period, keep the soil moist but not waterlogged. Finally, after about 2-3 weeks, check whether the branch has taken root. Once rooted, it can be transplanted to a larger pot or allowed to grow naturally.
