What are the plants that are most afraid of water?

For many flower enthusiasts, mastering the watering skills of plants is crucial. However, not all flowers love a moist environment. In particular, three common indoor green plants, namely money tree (Zamioculcas zamiifolia), fortune tree (Pachira macrocarpa), and snake plant (Sansevieria trifasciata), are loved by people for their easy-to-care characteristics. But at the same time, they are also notoriously known as flowers that are afraid of water.
Money Tree
The money tree, scientific name Zamioculcas zamiifolia, is named so because its leaves are similar in shape to ancient coins, implying abundant wealth and attracting fortune. It is native to the tropical grassland regions of eastern Africa. There, the climate is hot and dry, which has given the money tree extremely strong drought tolerance. During the maintenance process, what the money tree is most afraid of is waterlogging. Once overwatered and the roots are in a moist state for a long time, it is extremely easy to cause phenomena such as root rot, yellow leaves, and even plant death. Adhere to the principle of "water when dry, rather dry than wet". Wait until the surface of the potting soil is completely dry before watering to avoid water accumulation in the pot. Slowly water along the edge of the pot until water flows out from the bottom of the pot to ensure even distribution of water. Be careful not to pour water directly on the leaves to avoid leaf rot. Keeping the breeding environment well-ventilated helps with water evaporation and reduces the risk of water accumulation.
Fortune Tree
The fortune tree, scientific name Pachira macrocarpa, is highly favored because of its beautiful tree shape and auspicious meaning. The fortune tree is also native to tropical regions. Under natural conditions, there is not abundant rain, so it has also formed a growth habit of being drought-tolerant and afraid of waterlogging. When maintained indoors, if watered improperly, the fortune tree can easily have problems such as root rot and leaf shedding.
The fortune tree should not be watered too much. During the growing period, it can be watered once every 10 to 15 days. In winter, the watering frequency needs to be reduced to keep the potting soil slightly dry. Judge whether watering is needed by observing the state of the leaves and soil. When the leaves are slightly curled and the potting soil is whitish, it means the plant needs water; if the leaves are shiny green and the potting soil is moist, there is no need to water in a hurry.
Use potting soil with good air permeability and lay a layer of ceramsite or gravel at the bottom of the pot to enhance drainage performance and prevent water accumulation.
Snake Plant
The snake plant, also known as tiger tail orchid, is famous for its unique leaf texture and strong air purification ability. It is native to western Africa and southern Asia. It has strong adaptability, being drought-tolerant and cold-resistant. However, this does not mean that the snake plant can be watered at will. On the contrary, it is also afraid of excessive water. Especially in a relatively closed indoor environment, where water evaporation is slow, it is more likely to cause root rot.
For watering the snake plant, follow the principle of "water when not dry, and water thoroughly when watering". Spring and autumn are the peak growing seasons, and the watering frequency can be appropriately increased; in summer when the temperature is high, spraying water appropriately can increase air humidity; in winter, water needs to be strictly controlled to keep the potting soil dry. Ensure good drainage of the potting soil to avoid water accumulation. Loose and breathable sandy soil or a soil mixture of decomposed leaves and perlite can be selected for cultivation. The snake plant likes light but can also tolerate partial shade. Adequate light should be given during the growing period to promote plant growth and flowering.
As the three flowers that are most afraid of water, the key to maintaining money tree, fortune tree, and snake plant lies in reasonably controlling water. Only by mastering the correct watering methods and maintenance skills can these green plants thrive.
