For a flower lover who really loves Phalaenopsis, the most troublesome thing is undoubtedly the pest and disease problems it encounters during the growth process. Among them, the most difficult virus to deal with in Phalaenopsis is of course "anthracnose". How does it occur and what should we do when it occurs?
Let's first talk about this anthracnose. The characteristic of this disease is that the leaves turn black, as if they have been burned by fire. Maybe it's for this reason that the word "anthrac" is in the name of the disease. If you observe carefully, the lesions are circular, like circles. When the disease is severe, there will be a hole in the middle of the leaf. During the maintenance process, if you find these symptoms, you must intervene and deal with them quickly, otherwise the whole plant will die.
So how does anthracnose form? It is a disease caused by a fungus called Colletotrichum gloeosporioides. The main inducement for this kind of bacteria is that Phalaenopsis is usually placed in a poorly ventilated place for a long time, or it is caused by a hot and humid maintenance environment. And this kind of bacteria is not a new disease, but a common one in flower cultivation.
Generally speaking, when flower lovers see such a situation, they may think of using medicine. But for this anthracnose, using medicine is really not the best way. Because when using medicine, it generally needs to be diluted with water and sprayed with a sprayer. After spraying, the water mist may not be able to dissipate on its own, and then other lesions may appear. So what should we do? The best way is to directly cut off the leaves infected by the bacteria. Because once a plant gets anthracnose, it can hardly recover. Cutting off the diseased leaves when you find them can prevent it from infecting other healthy leaves.
Also, when throwing away the diseased leaves, don't throw them next to the flower pot. They should be put in the kitchen waste and disposed of on the same day, so as to completely prevent other flowers and plants from being infected by the bacteria.
In addition, don't panic too much when Phalaenopsis gets anthracnose! Although this disease spreads quickly, it is different from soft rot. When a flower gets soft rot, it will rot away quickly, but at most, anthracnose will only form a black bump on the leaf and will not kill the Phalaenopsis immediately. As long as it is dealt with immediately afterwards, the problem can be basically solved.
