In spring, all things come back to life, and the green plants at home also enter the peak growing season. However, some novice plant lovers often accidentally fall into some misunderstandings during the maintenance process. Below, I will share with you some super practical maintenance tips.
Lighting
Many people mistakenly place light-loving plants in dark corners. In this way, the plants cannot carry out photosynthesis fully, and it is naturally difficult for them to grow healthily. The correct approach is to understand the lighting habits of each plant. Sun-loving plants such as sunflowers and jasmines should be placed on the south-facing balcony so that they can enjoy the sunlight to their heart's content. Shade-tolerant plants like Epipremnum aureum and Monstera deliciosa are fine when placed in a brightly lit area indoors.
Watering
Some people are worried that their plants will lack water, so they water them every day. In fact, overwatering will make the roots of the plants soak in water for a long time, preventing them from breathing and leading to root rot. You can insert your finger 2 to 3 centimeters into the soil to feel the dryness and wetness of the soil. If it feels dry, water it in an appropriate amount; if the soil is still moist, don't water it for now. Different plants have different water requirements. Drought-tolerant plants like cacti require a lower watering frequency, while aquatic plants like Chinese money plants need to be provided with sufficient water.
Repotting
Some people find it troublesome and never repot their plants. When the roots of the plants fill the flower pot, the space is limited, and the nutrients will also be insufficient, affecting the subsequent growth. Once you find that the plant is growing slowly and a large number of roots appear on the surface of the flower pot, you need to promptly replace it with a larger flower pot and change to new soil, allowing the roots to have enough space to stretch.
Cleaning
The leaves are an important organ for plants to carry out gas exchange, but people often neglect to clean the leaves. The dust accumulated on the leaves will block the stomata and affect the plant's respiration and photosynthesis. Every few weeks, gently wipe the leaves of the plants with a soft damp cloth, or you can also rinse them with a spray bottle to keep the leaves clean and ensure smooth breathing.
In short, as long as you master these maintenance tips and take care of your plants patiently, your plants will be able to thrive.
