The vinca, known as "perpetual joy", has always been loved by flower enthusiasts. The reason is that it is extremely easy to care for. After new flowers bloom, there is a large quantity of flowers. The flowers are petite and lovely. It is a plant with tenacious vitality and can even bloom all year round if cared for well. So, how to prune it scientifically during the maintenance process?
How to choose the pruning time of vinca? Prune the dead and old branches in winter, while summer is suitable for mild thinning. It is recommended to prune the vinca when it grows to about 6 to 8 centimeters in general. The pruning principle is to leave 6 to 8 centimeters and cut off the other excess branch lengths. If the vinca has not reached the length during the seedling stage, do not prune it. Wait until it flowers and then do an overall pruning. In addition, 2-3 pairs of leaves below the spent flowers can also be removed. This operation can promote the blooming of subsequent flowers.
After the vinca's flowers fade, it can also be used for cuttings. The specific planting steps are not complicated. First, find a healthy mother plant without pests and diseases for cutting. The length is usually 5-10 centimeters, and each cutting should contain at least 3 nodes. After cutting, choose sandy soil that is slightly acidic or humus soil mixed evenly with river sand to make the cultivation soil, because this kind of soil is loose, fertile, and has better permeability.
Then, insert the prepared branches into the cultivation soil. First, make a diagonal cut on the branches to increase the contact area with the soil. The depth of insertion should be about one-third to one-half of the branch length. After inserting all the cuttings, gently compact the soil to ensure the cuttings are stable and upright. After the cuttings are inserted, keep the environmental temperature at 20-24℃, and wait for about 15-20 days for the branches to grow roots.
Finally, after the vinca grows roots, move it to the flowerpot you like. However, it should be noted that because the branches and leaves of the vinca grow fast, a larger flowerpot should be prepared as much as possible. It is recommended to put enough organic fertilizer at the bottom of the potting soil when moving for the first time. After that, maintain the soil slightly moist during maintenance and do not let it be too dry. After the vinca's adaptation period, the light can be gradually increased.
